The 3rd China-ASEAN Top Forum on Legal Cooperation and Development |
Dear colleagues,
The 3rd China-ASEAN Top Forum on Legal Cooperation and Development, to be hosted by China Law Society, will be held on Sept, 12-15, 2007 in Chongqing, China. The theme of the 3rd Forum is "Prosperity and Development-Foreground of the China-ASEAN Legal Cooperation". Following the objectives of the 1st and 2nd Forums, the 3rd Forum will be a platform of a high-level dialogue for the China-ASEAN legal professionals to further exchange, to deepen mutual understanding, to explore cooperation and to contribute to common development. We hope through the 3rd Forum we could develop and deepen the China-ASEAN all-around cooperation on legal perspective and continuously push forward the China-ASEAN strategic partnership.
On behalf of China Law Society, I warmly invite you and your colleagues to attend the 3rd Forum, and I sincerely hope we could get strong support and active participation from your organization.
With the more and more frequent exchange in the all-around way, the inspiring foreground of China-ASEAN FTA encourages all the industries of China and ASEAN countries. The 3rd Forum aims to promote the China-ASEAN practical legal cooperation. The representatives could discuss the hot and legal issues coming out in the process of construction of China-ASEAN FTA and legal cooperation, so as to explore the possible ways for solution and collaboration. At present, we are drafting the topics of the 3rd Forum, and the preliminary program is attached. We are open to suggestions and advices. We expect all the representatives could find his or her interest on the Forum. It is appreciated very much if you could help enrich the program and make proposals on the topics at your soonest convenience possible.
To build up the "China-ASEAN Top Forum on Legal Cooperation and Development" and to make it a long-term platform for exchange and cooperation, and play the role as the bridge and tie between China-ASEAN legal professionals, we propose set up Steering Committee of the China-ASEAN Top Forum on Legal Cooperation and Development during the 3rd Forum in Chongqing. We sincerely hope we could get an active participation and constructive advice from the national legal organizations and authorities of ASEAN countries.
To fulfill the Nanning Declaration and to propel the mutual understanding and cooperation of legal professionals between China and ASEAN countries, China Law Society will establish the "China-ASEAN Legal Training Base" and hold the 1st Training Course from Aug. 19 to Sept. 16, 2007 in Nanning, Guangxi Autonomous Region of China. The objective of the Training Base is to provide participants with the necessary general information of Chinese legal systems, Chinese civil and economic law, especially the latest development of Chinese regulations and policies of China-ASEAN FTA, to strengthen the trade, social and professional ties of China and ASEAN countries, and to provide intellectual support to the all-around cooperation of China and ASEAN.
The 1st Training Course will last 4 weeks and cover two parts: 3-week academic training in Guangxi University of Nationalities, and 1-week practical activities. We will invite well-known scholars, officials and lawyers in China to give lectures for the academic training. The practical activities will include visiting the local court, procuratorate, meeting with Chinese legal professionals and attending the 3rd Forum in Chongqing, etc.
The 1st Training Course will consist of 20 members and is applicable to all the ASEAN counties. Every national legal organization or authority could recommend 1-2 candidates and China Law Society will choose 2 persons as successful applicants from each country's candidates. China Law Society will bear all the expenses relating to the training course in China for all the participants during the I Training Course. The language for the training is Chinese and English.
For the trade and economic law will take great proportion in the 1st Training Course, it will be better if the candidate's occupation is or will be closely related to the trade and economic business with China. We hope that on their return to their home country, the experience and the knowledge they learned could expand their practice field and could help handle cases more reasonably, efficiently and smoothly. To hold the 3rd China-ASEAN Top Forum on Legal Cooperation and Development and establish China-ASEAN Legal Training Base, we have got strong support from Chinese government, related legal institutions, universities and local law societies. We strongly believe, with our joint efforts, the Forum and the Training Base will surely become the long-term platform and channel for information exchange, talents training, pragmatic cooperation and mutual benefit between China-ASEAN legal professionals, and it will surely contribute to a more prosperous future of China and ASEAN countries.
